"Caminantes, no hay caminos. Hay que caminar." An ancient wall writing in a Toledo monastery inspired Luigi Nono to compose a series of spatial works, including the intimate violin duo heard in this concert. Nono’s 1980s sound is at the same time static and unbalanced, fragile and intense.

Twenty years earlier the composer’s aim was to use the most advanced artistic means in the battle for social and political equality. Musica–Manifesto No.1 fuses the concrete music of protests at the 1968 Venice Biennale to electronically created soundscapes.

Since the 1950s Christian Wolff has encouraged performers to make responsible choices in order to create a collectively rewarding musical presentation – all in the spirit of inclusivity and good humor.
